To determine if the charging station is compatible with your electric vehicle, you need to know what type of charging is supported by your vehicle. This is usually indicated in the instruction manual or on the official website of the manufacturer.
There are three types of electric vehicle chargers:
EU Standard
Level 1 – 220 V, alternating current (AC)
The simplest and slowest type of charging, usually used from a regular household outlet. This type of charging is suitable for most electric vehicles, but charging can take up to 24 hours.
Level 2 – 380 V, alternating current (AC)
Is a faster charging type that is commonly used in home garages, parking lots, and other public places. This type of charging is supported by most electric vehicles.
Level 3 Direct current (DC) fast charging
Is the fastest type of charging used at public fast charging stations. It can charge a car in 30 minutes or less, but is not supported by all electric vehicles.
Check your vehicle manufacturer’s requirements and find out what type of charging it supports. You can then look for charging stations that match this type of charging. Many charging stations support multiple types of charging, so you should be able to find a universal station that fits your electric vehicle.
